Congress Calls Yahoo to Explain its Action in China

advertisement

The U.S. Congress Tuesday asked Yahoo Inc. to explain alleged false statements the company's attorney gave in testimony last year.

The House Foreign Affairs Committee said that Michael Callahan, Yahoo's senior vice president and general counsel, testified last year that Yahoo didn't know why the Chinese government asked the company for personal information about Shi Tao, a pro-democracy advocate. China has since imprisoned Shi for 10 years.

Who's leading the conversation?
This visualization below allows you to see the impact that each user has on the current conversation. The top row contains the group of users who have had the most impact, the 2nd row the group of users who have had the 2nd most impact (et cetera). Users with similar impact are grouped together, and the average score of the group is shown to the left of the group. The author of the article is also shown on the left, in their corresponding group. Each user's score is based on the number of comments the user has made plus the number of votes their comments have received. The scores are calculated relative one another, so while their absolute value is not particularly important, their relative difference does indicate a larger difference in impact on the conversation.

All businesses working in China are challenged with the difficult balance of free expression in a country that restricts access to information, Yahoo said. Still, Yahoo is working with other companies and the human rights community to create a global code of conduct for operating in such countries, the company said.

What a load of Bollocks. What about US citizens rights to free access to information. When will they let the BBC or CNN's branches outside the US put article on in North America for their viewers. This is just another case of the US objecting to the fact that their filthy propaganda is not available in countries like China. Considering the amount of pot shots that the US press takes on China I agree that they should be blocked by the Chinese Communist Party and they should prevent information leaking out like this that will be used to smear China by a vindictive US press that is nothing more than a tool of the religious right.
